NEXT STEPS CAMPAIGN
Do you know North Star Initiative opened The Harbor home less than 2 years ago? After 10 years of educating our community about the reality of sex trafficking and raising awareness to protect our youth, we answered the call to provide restoration to survivors and opened The Harbor. In 2018 North Star Initiative paid off the mortgage for The Harbor, and we rejoiced in the fact that God has been faithful in our request to provide a home for sex trafficking survivors.
In this short time The Harbor has served over 15 survivors, providing and coordinating services as they continue their healing journey. As we rapidly increase our program, 2019 has become our official call to expand. Each year a new record number of survivors seeking restorative services has moved us to action because at North Star we understand that rescue alone does not mean freedom.
What is Next Steps?
Next Steps is an expansion of two existing structures on our property. Renovating these structures will provide additional space needed to incorporate more education, on-site counseling, future micro-enterprise, on-site medical care and most importantly transitional living.
By moving in this direction North Star survivors will have the opportunity to graduate from the restorative program and move to a transitional living space. This will give them time to apply their skills in a safe setting surrounded by a loving, supportive staff. Finally, the additional education and counseling needs are met by increasing the space, allowing survivors to better engage in online services like GED classes, and other secondary education, in a setting that is secure and Christ-centered.
Why Invest in Expansion?
As more survivors come to The Harbor we realize that our current structures are not adequate to meet the growing need for education, on-site therapy, and eventual complete restoration of survivors. The real problem we face is the survivor’s ability to succeed after leaving The Harbor. We grew alarmingly aware that many survivors went back to "their previous life" after leaving because they didn't know how to navigate everyday life. They had been given the tools to succeed, but we hadn't given them enough time to learn how to apply them. We also saw the need to offer more educational outlets and counseling on-site to allow survivors a safe place to learn, grow and heal. “Next Steps” gives the gift of time to survivors providing more resources and a safe place to practice them.
How can you Help?
Pray for God's provision as He guides and leads North Star through the process.
Pray that God will send contractors and business associates who are willing to help with the project.
Pray for financial gifts to be multiplied, that every dollar raised will go further in meeting our needs.
Most importantly we need finances, we have favor with the local municipality but our window for pulling a permit to start the expansion expires in October of this year. If you feel called to be a part of this project please email firstname.lastname@example.org — she will place you on a list and will contact you with specific details relating to the needs for the project as they develop.
